“Design Thinking, Transmedia, & New Arts Audiences”
The Indianapolis Symphony Orchestra (the largest performing arts organization in Indiana) needed to attract a younger audience. It’s problem: It didn’t have the resources, or the infrastructure, to work outside its core mission.
The ISO and Ball State University’s Center for Emerging Media Design and Development partnered to solve that problem. A team of graduate students ran design thinking workshops to create a three-year transmedia experience aimed at bringing new audiences to the ISO’s Classical Series. This panel will examine how design thinking, human-computer interaction (HCI), and transmedia experiences can be used as a tool for the arts to extend their outreach to new audiences.
