The Transmedia Marketing Project
We are currently seeing a changing-of-the guard in the music marketing field. Today’s digital-first society has proven traditional marketing practices to be inefficient and out-of-date. While many music promoters and bands have embraced digitization, simply pre-releasing tracks online or hosting social media chats isn’t enough. Audiences today demand more from marketing campaigns; demanding that these artists come to the audience members themselves, and get to know them on a more personal and immersive level. My creative project will use both transmedia storytelling and marketing concepts to help reach a greater audience for a local band. From my extensive qualitative research, I will take the themes from my band’s music and create a series of flash fiction stories that help bring forward the overall message of their music. Furthermore, I will launch character-specific social media accounts to add more interactivity for the audience. My project will define best practices for the burgeoning field of transmedia marketing and provide a blueprint for how to accomplish music marketing campaigns with a low-budget.
