Our Progress
The team began developing Mobile Museum of Muncie in August 2023, by creating user journeys, researching content, conducting usability tests, and building the experience in 8th Wall, a platform to develop web-based Augmented Reality experiences.
After gathering content, creating mid-fidelity prototypes, and testing the user interface design
of the Indiana Union Traction Company story
among the team, external users tested the
story’s features.
The team created a script and filmed an actor to play George Rolland, an fictional union worker who narrates the story on the Indiana Union Traction Company. These video and audio recordings of George Rolland will appear in 2D form, with historical photographs and immersive sound
effects in the experience.
The team transitioned to filming the Royal Skating Rink story with an actress to play Virginia Williams, a fictional young girl narrating on roller skates.
This story engages users with examples of entertainment and community from Virginia William’s perspective at the Royal Skating Rink.
The team also created a story for the Wysor Grand Opera House with an actress to reenact what it was like to attend theater performances. This story provides context to the history of entertainment in the Muncie community.
The fourth story the team develops is about Home Hospital. This experience immerses users into a story about a Medical Training school in Muncie where students were trained on how to become doctors, nurses, and other medical practices. Filming and scripting of this story are in progress.
As the team continues to gather content for one more story, the development of the Indiana Union Traction Company story is finishing up and development of the other three stories begins. The team continues to develop this content in 8th Wall, allowing users to experience the history of downtown Muncie at their finger tips.

Indiana Union
Traction Company
After the Gas Boom in the late 1800s, Muncie implemented a trolley system that forever changed the way people traveled throughout the city. As a result of the Indiana Union Traction Company not renewing contracts and cutting wages, workers went on strike. A feud between workers and the company created chaos in Muncie and connected cities.
